Can I sew a straight line?

I'll admit, the sewing machine and I are not quite friends yet. But I did manage to sew up the following. (Disclaimer: I did have to rip out a few seams and re-do them.)

I had a pair of old pants lying around that I could no longer wear, so I decided to test my sewing skills. After cutting equally sized squares from both pairs, I sewed them together in a checkerboard type pattern, as shown in the photo of the finished product below.

Both sides are the same. Once the top and bottom were sewn I placed both right sides facing in and sewed around all four sides leaving a 6 inch opening to turn the pillow right side out. I then filled it and stitched close the opening by hand. Something like this can be use as a floor pillow or even as a bed for your pet if you use less filler.

  1. Interestingly enough, my cat had a pillow that was highly identical to that same pillow. :) It looks fabulous.

    1. He wuved it. However, there were many times when he had to make the difficult decision of choosing the pillow or my lap. I made it easy on him by placing the pillow on my lap.
